About the site
The website is hosted by Aletia Hosting (now being absorbed into JaguarPC), and is powered by PHP and MySQL. Neither PHP nor MySQL were my first choice (I much prefer Zope, and if I must do RDB, PostgreSQL), but the price was right and Aletia allows quite a bit of developmental freedom.
Content should always conform to XHTML 1.0 Strict, and is styled by whatever CSS2 that the current version of Mozilla seems to support at the time (though I try to make sure constructs don't break the site on less-capable browsers). If things are horribly broken (unusable) on your browser, please let me know about it; I will try to figure out a way to disable the stylesheet on your browser. The site is designed to be completely usable in the absence of stylesheets. More sites should be designed this way.
Known browser deficiencies
Please don't let me know about the following:
- The navigation link box is below the content on MSIE. This
is because MSIE does not support
position: fixed, but it is also because MSIE does not cascade CSS correctly, or you'd see it inposition: absolute(i.e. in the correct place, just not floating). There is JavaScript available to "repair" this but I do not want to use it, as JavaScript to work around browser bugs has a nasty habit of breaking future revisions that might fix the bugs.
